My creation process begins with paper cutting, really an elaborate form of drawing. Everything depends on a great drawing.  The actual cutting is very tedious but for me this is a form of meditation.

After the drawing, comes inking the design and painting what will be the front.  Next is the cutting out on the back of the painting with very sharp blades.  Sometimes I add tissue or rice papers to the design.

After that  the cutout is photographed and  scanned into a computer and the real fun of designing  begins.  Using Photoshop, I can manipulate the cutouts, resize & repeat elements,  change the colors, add different backgrounds and anything else for example photographs of Chinese plates.

When all the requirements are met I send a digital file to the printer.

I am so happy to be able to show you my work. Thank-you for your interest,

– Patti
